Why (the name) Fuzzy Music? From fuzzy logic, best explained perhaps by the ancient Greek philosopher Anaxagoras: “The things of the universe are not sliced off from one another with a hatchet, neither the hot from the cold nor the cold from the hot.” In other words: no labels other than good music.

Fuzzy Music, understood and used in the best sense, signifies good music that may defy categorization, yet has insular or perhaps universal appeal. Our name reflects our belief that whether in science, music or even in life itself, everything is a matter of degree; a continuum in which there are multivalues rather than precise delineations. Sometimes there are no hard lines or boundaries that can quantify or qualify one type of music as being "jazz" and another as "world" or whatever.

(According to Wikipedia: “Fuzzy logic is a form of multi-valued logic derived from fuzzy set theory to deal with reasoning that is approximate rather than precise. In contrast with "crisp logic", where binary sets have binary logic, the fuzzy logic variables may have a membership value of not only 0 or 1 – that is, the degree of truth of a statement can range between 0 and 1 and is not constrained to the two truth values of classic propositional logic.” So there.)

Guided by a wealth of influences, many artists find themselves dipping into rich cultural pools of musical styles, beliefs and realities that do not fit into the large, corporate/record company way of thought or aesthetics…a way of thought and business that seems to be going the way of the dodo bird, by the way. The artist-owned label’s time has come!

Meanwhile, time has found us focusing on music I believe is best called “jazz” and, further, these are all projects I believe in completely. Fuzzy Music has become a vanity label ~ one that serves my musical dreams better than I could have hoped or dreamt for. And the musicians whose work appears here are all musical friends and heroes.

The only way to make this music available was to start our own company. Our kitchen tabletop operation has grown, thanks to listeners like you. I am grateful to have this label as a means of producing my own music and the music of my friends and colleagues. Fuzzy Music® was created, and is offered to you, in a spirit of creativity and conscience, with our promise to strive earnestly to create the best quality music we know how.

The site also offers a quick, easy and secure way for students, teachers and fans to order and receive copies of my books and videos. Thank you for visiting! We promise your satisfaction.
